Thirteen Reason Why Canada Thought the Movie Eragon Sucked

Yes, I knew it wouldn't be as good as the book, but still . . .

1. The egg. It looked like a plastic blue football. In the book, it is oval and smooth, dark blue with veins of white spiderwebbed across it. And it was about a foot long, not 2 feet.
2. Arya. Okay, they never even mention that she is an elf (and her ears aren't pointed, either). Hello, this is kind of important to the plot. When she appears in Eragon's dreams, she is in a cell, and later unconscious. She isn't skipping and dancing in the woods, introducing herself, and telling Eragon where she is held captive. And how "raven-haired elven lady" became a blonde is quite beyond me.
3. Fine, I know that they have to cut stuff to fit into the movie, but why make a movie that is LESS than 2 hours if you're cutting important things. And really, the book took place over months, not what seems like a long weekend!
4. The dragon. Saphira did not morph magically into a full grown dragon. She also does not introduce herself - Eragon had to name her. They did an okay job with her, but sometimes she seemed like a puppy with scales, and scales that weren't nearly as sapphire blue as they should have been (more greyish-blue).
5. The dragon mark on Eragon's hand. It was in the middle of his palm and formed a "diffused white oval", not a scrawly lowercase e at the base of his thumb that was raised and black, like a brand. Eeesh.
6. The Ra'zac - the two creatures who chase after Eragon. They were not made up of a cloud of insects and dirt at the behest of the Shade. They were not human, and always remain cloaked. When a glimpse is seen of one of their heads, "it appeared to have something resembling a beak and black eyes as large as my fist".
7. Not enough of John Malkovich (pretty much the highlight of the movie). His portrayal of evil kinda turns me on ;)
8. Angela - such a tiny, chance encounter. And where was the werecat who is important to the story?
9. Murtagh - don't even get me started.
10. Brom's death - oh, who wrote this? "Let him die with his pride" and all that nonsense, and Saphira flies off with him. Gag.
11. Way too many undignified crash landing involving Saphira bouncing and skidding along the ground.
12. No mention of the dwarves in Tronjheim. Where were the twins, who were so crucial to the story? The Varden - not a race of people, but what those committed to fighting the Empire called themselves. And Tronjheim itself - lame, very lame. I won't even mention the big battle, except to say - wow, a few liberties are to be expected, but really, what were they thinking?
13. The end, with Eragon and Saphira flying to meet Arya. Blech. Just . . . blech.

Now you all know that I am a total nerd who is into dragons and magic and C.S.Lewis and Narnia, LOTR, and now Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Trilogy. :)

wow...I'm a little creeped out by this revelation that you're this much of a fantasy-buff!

Although I shouldn't be surprised, as I've heard your fantasies about other things...haha wink wink

I figured something out, you know what would save the makers of fantasy movies a lot of criticism? If they wrote their own stories and didn't base them on books (or didn't admit directly to basing them on books like George Lucas with Dune).
