Latin vs Italian

Otherwise known as "Which of my recital pieces scares me the most?!"

Tonight. Yes, it's another performance anxiety post, so feel free to yawn and move on. I was all confident. I even wore a power BPAL scent to my rehearsal yesterday. At which I did giggle quite a bit, because AVT kept making me laugh. It was a bit stressful, though, because I'm used to her accompanying me at lessons, but I'm not so used to the accompanist for the recital. He's really good, it's just a matter of getting comfortable with the performance space, the different sound of this piano, and his style.

So . . . I much prefer the Latin. It's the Pie Jesu from Faure's Requiem. I find it quite easy to sing, and I'll be holding my score (otherwise known as my security blanket!). However, my second piece is a whole other ball of wax. It's Il Mio Bel Foco, this passionate Italian art song. And it's SO.NOT.ME!!!! Yes, I am a very passionate person in the way I live life, but I am kind of restrained when I perform. I don't like to be the center of attention (stop laughing, it's true!!!), and I'm really not comfortable with being this dramatic. Overall, this song is making me crazy!!!! AVT thinks it's funny that I find it far easier to sing On Mighty Pens from Haydn's Creation - according to her, it's much more dificult. At any rate, that's what I'll be singing at next year's recital (providing I don't die of stage fright tonight!!!).

Oh, and did I mention that I actually have people coming to see me tonight? Yes, to add to the stress, my dad is coming, as are Senate Woman and her husband. Also, Gordon (my choir director) and Gaston are coming. I didn't invite them, but they apparently go every year. Great, nothing like a little added pressure. Hubby, of course, is not going. What else is new?

Blast From the Past

A while back, I did a little meme about firsts. First car, first grade teacher, first kiss. All very cool. Until I named my first kiss, and he found me!!! But he didn't say it was him, and didn't out me. He just said enough that I knew he knew it was someone in our grade 6 class (18 people in that class, huge for the private school we went to ). I freaked out, added the no anonymous posts, the validation letters, and moved on. About a week later, I removed all my paranoid security measures, and it's all been fine.

So . . . on Facebook (yes, that's still where I've been, plus the end of school/work for the summer, and a whole lotta decorating work), I looked him up. And sent him a message saying "are you the Mr X who went to private school?". To which he replied "Yep. I stumbled onto your blog a few months ago, and saw my name in the "first kiss" section. I gave it some thought and figured out it was you.I sent an email to you, but I think you ignored it.How are you, hope all is good." Honestly, I don't recall any e-mail. Unless he sent it anonymously, which would have freaked me out even more (and Weasley is laughing his ass off right now, saying "yep, high strung").

Life is funny. And I feel totally like a nerd at the moment. Well, more than usual. So, I put in a friend request. I wonder if he'll add me?

Tagged Again!

Well, while hibernating (translates to "while completely immersed in Facebook"), I have been tagged for a meme by Gretty. So, here it goes (if there's anyone left to read since I've been awol for so long)

I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I've always wanted to try playing the violin.
2. I am hopelessly addicted to Harry Potter. So much so that, as much as I want to see INXS, who are here for one night only, I can't make myself buy tickets because it is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opening night.
3. It's a good thing that I had twins, because I really only wanted one child (I'm an only), but I can't imagine life without either my son or my daughter.
4. I have a freakishly good memory. I can remember stuff from when I was two. And ridiculously minute details (like what I was wearing, what song was playing, etc details) for long ago events. Although my short term memory has gone to hell since I had kids.
5. I'm allergic to penicillin, erythromycin, and clindamycin. And I don't react well to tetracycline.
6. In third year, I cheated on my counterpoint composition - a friend from another school gave me his in exchange for a music history paper.
7. I cried at Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End. I blamed it on PMS, but in reality, I'm just incredibly sappy.
8. I'm kind of a neat freak, but my drawers and closets are messy.

Okay, now to tag.
1. Laurel ('cause you always want me to tag you)
2. Beck ('cause you've been more neglectful of blogging than I have!)
3-8. anyone else (because I think everyonme has done this already!)
